The Philippines had been hit with the new coronavirus. Every day, the number of confirmed cases increases. As such, President Rodrigo Duterte imposed an “enhanced community quarantine” in the entirety of Luzon.

In the fight against COVID-19, the Philippine government was criticized for the lack of testings done. Previously, it was reported that the country only had 2,000 testing kits available, but since then, Health Secretary Duque said it has increased.

The fight against COVID-19 starts with the detection of the virus. In lieu of this, the Jack Ma Foundation, in partnership with the Manny Pacquiao Foundation is providing 50,000 test kits to fight COVID-19.

As of Monday, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Philippines was at 142. However, the World Health Organization projected that the number could rise exponentially if left unchecked.

In their worst-case scenario, the WHO said the number of infected in the country could rise to 70,000. Additionally, the country would face a 3-4% mortality rate with around 2,100 to 2,400 deaths.

Based on statics from World O Meter, there are currently 182,547 cases of COVID-19 worldwide. Along with this, there have been 7,164 fatalities due to the virus. However, more than 79,881 have already recovered.

The countries hit hardest by the new coronavirus are Italy and Iran. Currently, Italy had seen a massive jump in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

COVID-19 cases in Italy rose by over 3,000 in just 24 hours. Italy’s Civil Protection Department Chief Angelo Borrelli expressed that the total Italy coronavirus cases now is 27, 980.
