Across the globe, governments struggle to contain the new coronavirus. As such, economies have been paralyzed, much like in Italy, and countries are in disarray.

Currently, the deadly virus has affected over 145,638 people worldwide. Moreover, the virus caused the death of more than 5,423 individuals. However, 71,169 have recovered from COVID-19.

But, even with the extremely evident effects of COVID, Qatar Airlines CEO Akbar Al-Baker still doubts the virus’ existence.

Based on a report from Arab News, Al-Baker stated:

During the incubation period, they say that this virus can be transmitted. There is no scientific evidence for that. It is just, you know, a fear factor.

During an interview with Bloomberg, the controversial airline chief lamented on the operational woes caused by the virus to airlines.

For them to do what they did to the Chinese cabin crew … whoever goes to China cannot now go anywhere else in these countries for the next 14 days. They don’t realize the operational impact it would create on an airline

What evidence do you have that on every single airplane you do not have three or four people with contagious disease sitting next to you?

As per the report, Qatar discovered 238 new coronavirus cases among expatriates isolated in a residential compound. With this, the total number of cases rose to 262.

Al-Baker had been heavily criticized in the past for his controversial comments. Along with this, the airlines also faced accusations of female cabin crews being discriminated against.
