Filipino Citizen Goes Viral After Saying Coronavirus New Name Incorrectly

A Filipino citizen has gone viral on social media and earned various reaction after saying the new coronavirus name incorrectly.

Recently, the World Health Organization released the official name for the novel coronavirus 2019 from Wuhan, China – which is the epicenter of the virus and where the virus originated.

The international body named the disease as COVID 19 or coronavirus disease 2019. According to WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreysus, the “co” refers to “corona”, the “vi” to “virus”, the “d” to “disease”, and the “19” to the year it was first recorded.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines where coronavirus disease case was also confirmed, President Rodrigo Duterte announces urgent measures against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in his public address.

Duterte announced plans for a sweeping lockdown of the capital’s 12 million people, including a halt to domestic travel, in a bid to contain the deadly new coronavirus. He also announced a month of school closures, ban on mass gatherings and a prohibition on the entry of foreigners from places where the contagion is spreading.

In line with this, Filipino residents choose not to stay in Metro Manila. As a result, they are urge to return to their provinces to avoid being overtaken from the lockdown.

On March 13, Friday episode of ABS-CBN news show TV Patrol, a reporter went to the terminal of the bus to report and show the current situation amid lockdown issue.

Meanwhile, a Facebook page named Tarantado University shared a video where a bus conductor named Herman Alimagno was interviewed and ask about the current situation in the terminal.

“Dumagsa ang mga pasaheros di naming alam kasi sabi nga may Kornbip-19,” he said in the interview. The reporter asks him again on what he said “may virus baga ano nga tawag dun?” he uncertainly added.

  1. Kilala ang mga Pilipino na isa sa mga pinakamasayahing tao sa mundo. Because we seems to take things lightly even during difficult times. Pero dapat maging sensitibo din tayo sa maaring maramdaman ng isang tao o mga kaanak nito kung gagawin nating katatawanan ang isang hindi tamang sinabi ng isang tao. Lalo na ang media, nagiging viral lang naman ang isang sitwasyon kasi kayo mismo ang nagpapa viral nito. At tayo namang mga nakakatunghay, ginagawa agad itong katatawanan na akala mo ay hindi tayo nagkakamali. Marami din namang mga nakapagtapos ng pag-aaral pero hindi lahat ay alam nilang bigkasin. Kung iyon ang pagkarinig nya, intindihin na lang nating mga nakakaINTINDI. Kung kailangan nyo sya i tama at maipaliwanag kung ano ang salitang nabanggit, eh di ipaliwanag mo. That way, that same person once he learned that he pronounced it incorrectly, will just laugh at his own mistake. Hindi yung ikaw mismo na nag interview ang magpapaulit pa na para mong gusto ipamukha ke tatay ang kamangmangan nya sa salitang iyon. FYI, hindi po ako seryosong tao kasi likas na masayahin ang aming angkan. Pero sensitibo po ako sa “feeling” ng isang tao lalo at alam kong maaring makapagpababa ng kanyang moral ang mga reaksyon na kanyang matatanggap dahil lang sa kakulangan nya sa kaalaman. Paumanhin po kung may mga nasagasaan ako sa komentong ito.
