According to GMA News, the 2nd fatality, identified as PH 35 or Philippine Patient 35, a 67-year-old female confined at the Manila Doctors Hospital, was identified by Zubiri as the wife of the said resource person.

“This is serious as the Filipino lady who died yesterday was the wife of the resource person that attended Sen. (Sherwin) Gatchalian’s hearing,”

The invited guest for a hearing led by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on March 5 turned out to be infected with the virus, prompting him to undergo self-quarantine.

“The resource person himself is in critical condition now,”

Zubiri said that most solons in the Upper House of the Congress also declared thaty they also undergo self-quarantine while they await the results of laboratory tests to be undertaken by Gatchalian and Senator Nancy Binay, who were there in the said Senate hearing.

Zubiri, among others, also decided to self-quarantine.

Meanwhile, Senator Risa Hontiveros said that she will practice social distancing while Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go and President Rodrigo Duterte will undergo testing.

“To be safe, we, the senators should be all tested for COVID-19 as we were exposed yesterday to a number of people,”

“I had been warning my colleagues on the conduct of public hearings during these times but obviously some of them did not heed my warning,”

As per the report, Zubiri suggested that employees of the Senate shall be allowed to work from home as they continue to disinfect the GSIS building.

“This virus is no joke and we should take this seriously. Many think we are panicking pero kung mahal ninyo mga magulang n’yo at inyong mga lolo at lola then you should take this virus very seriously dahil ang mga malimit na namamatay ay mga senior citizens,”

The first death of a patient in the Philippines was a 44-year-old Chinese tourist. It is also the first ever death of the disease outside China.
