Yesterday, the Department of Health announced 9 new cases of COVID-19 in the country. With the increasing number of cases, President Duterte declared a public health emergency.

The patients positive for COVID-19 have been admitted at several hospitals including the Medical City. However, after taking care of 3 confirmed cases and several admitted Persons Under Investigation, the hospital stopped admissions.

They released a letter that stated:

Due to the rising number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 that were diagnosed in the Medical City, and because of DOH-mandated staffing quarantine rules, we wish to inform the community that we will temporarily stop admitting all Patients Under Investigation (PUIs) effective immediately.

They added that at the rate they were at, they lacked the manpower to handle more cases.

We are taking care of 3 confirmed cases and several admitted PUIs, currently available manpower will be unable to care for any additional patients.

Along with this, they emphasized that although their patients were their primary concern, they needed to uphold a safe workforce to sustain higher-quality care for their patients.

The Emergency Room team is herby directred to transfer all confirmed COVID-19 cases and moderatly symptomatic PUIs awaiting admission to other private or government hospitals as TMC is already at full capacity.
