Palace Assures Public That DOH Has Enough Funds to Combat COVID-19

Malacañang Palace assures the public that the Department of Health has enough funds to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in an interview with GMA News, Tuesday, this was the same assurance given to them by the Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado.

“Hindi naman kukulangin sa budget dahil sa ngayon okay pa naman ang DOH. Meron pa namang pagkukunan pa. In-assure sa atin ni Secretary Wendel Avisado na meron tayong pera,” he said.

P2-billion supplemental budget, DOH asked Congress in light of the threat posed by COVID-19. The asked budget will be used to purchase surgical masks and personal protective equipment for the health workers who are on the frontline to fight the virus.

In the meantime, the department can use the P530 million of its 2020 budget to help to prevent the spread of COVID-19, said Health Secretary Francisco Duque III in a press briefing last week.

Meanwhile, the Spox Panelo asked the public to be calm and rely only on the verified information released by the health officials amid the coronavirus disease 2019 confirmed cases in the Philippines. He also assured the public that DOH are doing its best to prevent the spread of the virus.

Recently, the health department reported new cases of coronavirus. The total of infected in the Philippines is not at 24. The Filipinos are monitoring the rapid increase in the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the country.
