Palace Asked Public to Be Calm and Rely on DOH Information Amid COVID-19

Malacañang Palace asked the public to be calm, rely on the verified information and be assured that the DOH is doing its job amid COVID-19 cases in the country.

In our previous article, March 6, Friday, health authorities announce there are two (2) new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines. Two men were infected with the deadly disease.

The DOH confirmed that the cases of COVID-19 in the country rose to five. One 48-year-old man had a recent travel history to Japan while the other had “no known history of travel”. Both are Filipinos with one of the patients 62-year-old male frequently visited a Muslim prayer hall in San Juan City.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said everyone should be calm and no need to be alarmed. He added that the Department of Health (DOH) are doing their jobs to prevent the dissemination of the virus in the country.

“We call on everyone to be the voice of calm and sobriety. The DOH, which has been following established international protocols, continues to monitor persons under investigation.” Panelo said

“Teams have been formed to do contact tracing. The Health Department, along with other agencies of the government, likewise provides our people with the latest updates relative to the impact of this global health scare,” said Panelo in his statement.

He also asked the public to avoid spreading of “unverified and unofficial information” that can cause undue panic among the concerned citizens. As well as be “scrupulous” in reading materials that may help them be informed of COVID-19.

Panelo said President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered government agencies to be “absolutely transparent to the Filipino people” regarding the novel coronavirus issue, as based on GMA News reported.

“At the very outset of the surge of news reports concerning COVID-19, the President has categorically mandated relevant instrumentalities of the government to be absolutely transparent to the Filipino people as regards this health issue, aware that we have the right to be informed of the conditions surrounding us. Local transmission, if and when it happens in the country, would thus be unequivocally reported to the people,” the presidential spokesperson said.
