James and Pat and Dave: Movie Review of Star Cinema’s Rom-Com

James and Pat and Dave movie review

James and Pat and Dave Movie Review — This Star Cinema movie is a sequel of the 2016 MMFF entry Vince and Kath and James of Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia.

The sequel featured Ronni Alonte who played the role of James in its predecessor, Loisa Andalio as Pat, and Dave was played by Donny Pangilinan. Once again, director Theodore Boboral used the romantic-comedy formula, however, this time it is James’s turn to find his “happily ever after” following his decision to give way to Kath and Vince.

Based on the movie review of Rappler’s Oggs Cruz, the most unique thing that the movie has was its ability to transform the character of James from an antagonist is someone’s quest for love forever to a protagonist in his own love story. However, Cruz said that the movie did not incorporate the element of surprise.

Another factor that would affect the interest of moviegoers is that it is pre-equipped with baggage since it is a sequel. Because of this, comparing is inevitable. According to Cruz, the onscreen chemistry of JoshLia was so evident and that makes James and Pat and Dave appeared to be attempting too hard to blend with romance and comedy.

The movie critic also said that this rom-com film is just a so-so. Cruz said, “the movie never feels funny enough, or charming enough, or serious enough.” With this, it is just okay to say that it is just a continuation of a surprise hit.

Although Ronnie Alonte has improved when it comes to acting he is just a bland lead, according to Cruz. In addition, his rival in the movie, Donny, is also as bland as him. If there is someone that carried out the film and made it survive is Loisa.

Her portrayal of her role as Pat with feistiness and at the same time with vulnerability gave the movie a reason for viewers to be interested.
