Fire Blazes Heritage House In Vigan City, One Dead

VIGAN CITY – A fire blazed a heritage house behind Calle Crisologo in Vigan City early morning, which left with one person dead.

According to GMA News, Michael Chan, chief of Ilocos Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said that the fire broke out at around 8:28 AM on Wednesday.

The house was located by a YouScooper on Twitter, who said that it was located along General Luna corner Plaridel Street

Reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) stated that the fire consumed the house quickly since it is made from light materials. The fire was put out at around 11 AM.

Chan said that two people was inside the house when the fire occured.

The dead, identified as Eric Hernandez, was said to be asleep during the fire.

“Habang nilalabanan ‘yong apoy nilabas na [siya] ng mga kasamahan nating BFP… sunog din po e. Mga third-degree burn na ‘yong katawan,”

Fernandez’ female companion was saved by the BFP.

As per the report, Chan said that the fire did not spread to nearby houses because one had a firewall while the other was made of bricks.

Investigations still occur to determine the cause of the fire.
