According to Panay News, seven PUIs for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the region have been tested negative. This adds up to a total number of 36 PUIs cleared in Region VI.

Dr. Mary Jane Roches Juanico, head of the Infectious Disease Section of Department of Health (DOH) Region 6, said that there is now one more PUI left as of February 18 (Tuesday).

She added that the PUI from the province of Capiz is confined to a hospital.

Director of DOH-6 Dr. Marlyn Convocar said that although there is a drop in PUIs, precautionary measures against respiratory infections must be observed.

Convocar also stressed that cleanliness and personal hygiene are importane in containing the spread of diseases and protecting the entire community.

“Dapat vigilant man gihapon kita, especially those that naghalalin sa iban nga countries. Kinahanglan magkadto gid sa health centers para ma-evaluate,”

As per the report, the infection of COVID-2019 begins with a fever followed by a dry cough. It would eventually result to a shortness of breath.

In more sever cases, however, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and in worst cases, death.

The health department division emphasizes the vital part of washing of hands with soap and water frequently or disinfecting with alcohol.

The World Health Organization (WHO) further urged the following preventive measures:

  • Cover the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing – ideally with a tissue – and wash the hands afterwards, to prevent the virus spreading
  • Avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth – if the hands touch a surface contaminated by the virus, this could transfer it into the body
  • Don’t get too close to people coughing, sneezing or with a fever – they can propel small droplets containing the virus into the air – ideally, keep one meter (three feet) away

DOH-6 also warned the public not to attend, participate, and organize huge events. They further urged the postponement of such planned events or mass gatherings until further advice.
