Family, Classmates Grieve Death of Grade 8 Student Who Was Hit by Speeding Jeepney

SPEEDING JEEPNEY – The family and classmates of the Grade 8 student who was hit by a speeding jeepney expressed their grief.

In a previous article, we shared the horrific footage of students being plowed by a speeding jeepney. The incident happened at the corner of J.P. Rizal Avenue and Mabini St. in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City on Tuesday night.

It can be seen in the video that the traffic lights signaled the vehicles to stop so that the students could cross the pedestrian lane. There was even a traffic enforcer to help the children cross and signal the cars to stop. However, a speeding jeepney failed to halt and ran them over.

The Makati Traffic Bureau said the driver of the speeding jeepney lost control of the vehicle. Crisalde Tamparong was immediately arrested and face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and multiple physical injuries.

After further investigation, the police found out that Tamparong does not have a license and tested positive for drugs. A 13-year-old student named Jules Villapando died while 19 others were injured.

The young boy is a Grade 8 student at Gen. Pio del Pilar National High School. Jules Villapando was declared dead, the 7 others suffered bruises, fractured bones, and abrasions.

Jules’ death leaves his family and classmates stunned. One of his classmates shared his disbelief, “Pinaka mamimis ko po lay Jules yung pagiging makulit nya po. Pang-aasar nya po sa amin tuwing may bonding po kami,” said Justin Mark Tungol.

Jules Villapando’s father Rene Villapando said stop fighting for justice. “Kung ano yung hustisya na dapat para sa kanya, yun ang gagawin naming. Hindi naming ipagpapalit sap era yung anak naming,” he said.
