What Will Happen if ABS-CBN Franchise Expires?

A certain media expert revealed what will happen if ABS-CBN franchise expires in March 2020 before Congress releases its decision.

On Monday (February 10, 2020), Solicitor General Jose Calida asked the Supreme Court to revoke the Kapamilya Network’s franchise. The House of Representatives will still hear several bills regarding the matter.

Recently, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas legal counsel and spokesperson Rudolph Jularbal explained that will happen to the franchise holder if the franchise expires before the Congress nod.

Jularbal said that ABS-CBN can still go on air even its franchise expires next month. He explained that the holder’s license to operate will be extended until the Congress denied or granted the permit if the holder applied for franchise renewal before the expiration date.

KBP members have never experienced the rejection of franchise renewal from Congress, according to Jularbal. If Congress denies the franchise renewal, ABS-CBN can still act as blocktimer on other channels or content provider on social media.

“We reiterate that everything we do is in accordance with the law… This case appears to be an attempt to deprive Filipinos of the services of ABS-CBN,” Kapamilya network stated.
