According to ABS-CBN News, the mayor is identified as Abdulwahab Sabal .

Police said that they received a report at around 11:30 PM that there is a shootout in a hotel in Quirino Avenue, Barangay 706. The SUV where the mayor was in received bullet holes.

Police Lt. Col. Samuel Pabonito of Malate Police said that Sabal was in the driver’s seat when the incident happened, adding that the window near the passenger’s seat was shattered.

Based on the blood markings on the concrete, Pabonito deduced that Sabal was already injured when he attempted to enter the hotel, in which its entrance was also shattered where the victim laid down.

“Ayon sa kasamahan [ni Sabal], bumaba siya, pumunta na roon sa pintuan. Nakarinig siya ng putok, akala niya fireworks lang,”

Police reports added that Sabal was in Manila to join an activity. He was with his wife when the shootout happened.

Ulanbai Lizardo, a mayor and a relative of Sabal was also surprised at what happened to him.

As per the report, Sabal was named by President Rodrigo Duterte as one of the alleged narco-politicians when he was a vice mayor in Talitay.

Sabal was arrested in 2016 in Awang Airport for his alleged involvement in illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

Sabal was also rumored to be linked to the Roxas night market explosion in Davao, which he disclaimed.

Police are currently investigating regarding the motive of the crime and in finding the assailants.
