According to health authorities in Hubei, 65 people died from the virus. This raised the number of deaths in the province to 479 which brings the global total to at least 490 victims.

Meanwhile, according to an article from CNN, authorities have confirmed 3,156 more cases of the virus in the province. Currently, the population of Hubei is at least 50 million.

Following this, the total number of confirmed cases in the province adds up to 16,678. As per the article, a total of 12,627 patients have been admitted to the hospital. Of that number, 771 are in critical condition. This adds up the global confirmed cases of the virus to over 23,000.

Due to the spread of fears and anxieties in mainland China, some reports said that authorities have ordered residents to “get rid” of their pets or have them culled.

A village in Hebei had urged households to “deal with” their pets. They were given an ultimatum of five days. Meanwhile, another community in Shaanxi demanded residents to dispose of their pets immediately.

Some residents have already started to throw out their pets from their apartment windows because of this reason. Several cats and dogs were seen dead on the street due to a long fall.

The number of pets that would have to be culled was estimated to be in the millions. However, the World Health Organization stated that there is no evidence that pets like dogs or cats can be infected.
