Davao del Sur Hit by Earthquake with 4.0 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.9 magnitude quake in Davao del Sur on February 4, 2020.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. Meanwhile, it is always advised to wait for the updates from the authorities.

Recently, a quake has hit a part of Davao del Sur. At 01:51 am on February 4, 2020, Sulop was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0. An intensity was recorded of the said quake.

EARTHQUAKE

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Davao del Sur was located at 06.58°North, 125.27°East – 008 km South 73° West of Sulop. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 002 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated that there are no damages and as well as aftershocks from the quake. The following intensity was recorded:

  • Intensity II – Magsaysay, Davao del Sur
