Broken Hearts As Taal Residents Return to Damaged Homes
TAAL RESIDENTS – The hearts of the Taal residents broke when they saw their homes ruined due to the eruption of the volcano.
The volcano island Taal erupted on January 12. Villagers were forced to leave their homes and abandon their houses and animals. The Philippines’ second most active volcano spews ashes, lava, and small stones.
Volcanic ashes have reached the Luzon area. The victims of the disaster stayed in evacuation centers for days. Good thing their countrymen helped them with their needs.
Surely, the Taal evacuees received all the things they need at the shelters. In fact, one of the victims started his own sari-sari store using all the relief goods he got. But the people who are eager to bring back their life on the island wonder what awaits them.
After two weeks, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) lowered Taal volcano’s status to level 3. It means the volcano is no longer at risk of deadly eruption. Residents can now return to their homes.
Most of the residents especially the elderly didn’t want to be relocated. Based on a report from Rappler, the residents of Agoncillo, Batangas were now allowed to return to their homes after the PHIVOLS lifted the alert level.
However, the villagers were broken-hearted when they saw their homes collapsed into the broken ground.
According to the report, the residents of Agoncillo town were wondering where they could get funds to fix their houses since they don’t have any jobs yet and they have lost their livelihood.
We can all hope that the government will help the poor residents resettle on the island.
