According to reports from ABS-CBN, the unnamed 24-year-old flight attendant had a history of recent travel to Wuhan. There, the new strain of coronavirus was first discovered.

Based on a statement from Dr. Cornelio Cuachon of the Aklan Provincial Health Office, the flight attendant went through a medical check-up.

He added that the attendant had a history of coughing and came from Wuhan. However, Dr. Cornelio said that the flight attendant was confined inside the airplane and didn’t go out.

As per the report, this led to the flight attendant being eventually discharged. Following this, health workers extracted samples to be sent to the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine to determine if it was positive for the new coronavirus.

In lieu of the rampant outbreak of the virus in China, authorities have ordered the city of Wuhan to shutdown all outbound public transportation.

Authorities urged residents of Wuhan not to travel outside of the city unless absolutely necessary. In addition, the number of confirmed cases has ballooned to at least 547 with eight new deaths connected to the virus in Hubei.

Several airports worldwide had also imposed tighter security measures and airport screenings of passengers from China in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus.

On Tuesday, Chinese authorities announced they would initiate Class A prevention control measures. This is used during major outbreaks like the plague and cholera.

With this, health officials are given powers to lock down affected areas and quarantine high-risk patients. China had previously used this measure to tackle the 2009 H1N1 outbreak.
