3 Tectonic Earthquakes Hit The Province of Davao del Sur on Thursday (January 16)

EARTHQUAKE ALERT – The state volcanology agency Phivolcs recorded three tectonic earthquakes in the province of Davao del Sur.

On Thursday (January 16, 2020), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that three mild earthquakes jolted Davao Del Sur. The tremors are tectonic in origin and no tsunami alert has been raised.

Around 4:33 am, Phivolcs recorded a magnitude 2.3 earthquake with a depth of 15 kilometers. The mild quake’s epicenter is located 6 km northwest from the city proper of Digos in Davao.

At 5:14 am, a 2.1 magnitude quake has been recorded in the same province. The tremor’s epicenter was traced at 15 km southwest of nearby Kiblawan town and has a depth of 30 kilometers.

The volcanology agency also recorded a magnitude 3.6 tremor around 5:36 am with a depth of 23 kilometers. The epicenter has been found at 18 kilometers southwest of Sulop town, Davao del Sur. The tremor registered Intensity 2 in Malungon, Sarangani.

The disaster risk reduction and management council and the regional Office of Civil Defense in Southern Mindanao said that no damage or injury has been recorded after the incident. Phivolcs also said that no aftershocks are expected.
