PHILVOCS: List of Barangays Possibly Affected if Volcanic Tsunami Occur

PHILVOCS Releases List of Barangays That Could Be Hit by Volcanic Tsunami

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) have released the list of barangays that possibly affected if a volcanic tsunami occurs.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, about 6,000 residents were evacuated from the danger zone by Sunday evening. Authorities stated there was a risk that the eruption could cause a tsunami.

It is because of the incessant anger of the Taal volcano that its alert status has not gone up so far. If this were to happen, it would be considered “hazardous” and “extremely dangerous” to be a situation where it could be associated with more dangerous events such as the Tsunami.

Most of the barangays are from Batangas which have declared a state of calamity, other barangays are in Cavite including Tagaytay. Phivolcs continue to monitor volcanic activity further and its damage is increasing.

Here is a list from the Phivolcs also shared by the Philippine Star:

In addition to the expected Tsunami, the Phivolcs also issued a warning for the Volcano Base surge. Further caution is being given to residents who are experiencing the effects of the Taal eruption.
