According to a statement from BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, immigration officers have barred 180 unruly foreigners from entering the country in 2019. This number is 47 percent higher than the previous 133 foreigners barred in 2018.

Based on BI airport operations records, among the unruly foreigners were 63 Chinese or 35 percent of the barred aliens. It also included 23 Koreans, 10 Americans, nine Japanese, eight Australians and five people from Britain.

According to a report from Philstar, the BI had also prevented the entry of four nationals from Malaysia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Vietnam, and three nationals each from the following countries:

  • Germany
  • Hong Kong
  • Israel
  • Switzerland

There were also two citizens from the following countries who were denied entry:

  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Czech Republic
  • Egypt
  • Ireland
  • Ivory Coast
  • Kuwait
  • Poland

Likewise, the following countries had one resident barred from entering the Philippines:

  • Austria
  • Bangladesh
  • Colombia
  • Ecuador
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Italy
  • Jamaica
  • Oman
  • Russia
  • Taiwan
  • Turkey
  • Vanuatu
  • Yemen

Morente stated that the foreigners were immediately sent back to their countries and automatically blacklisted and were declared undesirable aliens banned from re-entering the country.

We thus reiterate our warning to foreigners intending to visit the Philippines that they should refrain from exhibiting bad behavior that would make them undeserving to enter our country,

The policy that prevents undesirable foreign nationals from entering the country is thanks to a memorandum issued by former BI Commissioner Andrea Domingo on March 29, 2001.
