According to a report from GMA News, the transport network company said in a statement that it would like to reiterate its interest in participating in the motorcycle taxi space. This is in order to provide affordable and agile transport solutions to hundreds of thousands of Filipino commuters.

The statement was in light of the recent talks about motorcycle taxis in the Philippines.

Grab used to have a GrabBike service until it was discontinued in the middle of the year 2016 due to compliance with the government regulations.

Grab further added that as the government is looking for a possible regulation for motorcycle taxis, it considered to re-invest in the motorcycle taxi denomination and relaunch its GrabBike service in the Philippines, with the approval from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTRFB) and the Department of Transportation (DoTr).

“This service, in other countries where Grab is present, proves to complement TNVS (transport network vehicle service), having two very distinct market segments,”

As per the report, the company prepared its approach for reinstating their service and is ready to present to the LTFRB and the DOTr anytime.

On December 18 last year, inter-agency Technical Working Group extended the six-month long pilot run of motorcycle ride-hailing operations for another three months, with the inclusion of two new companies namely, JoyRide and Move It.

The pilot run, which also involves motorcycle taxi pioneer Angkas, was about to end on December 26, 2019.
