Last year, he went viral as the ‘Ukulele Boy’ for his impressive performance while caroling with his ukulele, but Chan Jonlie “Tongli” Cabradilla, 12, recently lost his ukulele in a fire that burned their house down just a few weeks before Christmas.

With no house to live in and no ukulele to use in caroling to at least earn some money for food. His mother is seeking help so they can have something as the new year begins.

According to the report of Cebu Daily News, Jojie Cabranilla, the mother of Jonlie, the family had gone out caroling on that fateful night, December 9. After hours of being out, the family were tired and immediately fell asleep at their home in Barangay Lawaan III, Talisay City in Cebu.

It was quite lucky, actually, that they heard their neighbors shouting “Sunog!” (Fire!). Jojie and her husband immediately got up and quickly roused the children who were almost asleep.

When they got out of the house, they just saw that their home was on fire. They could not return to their house to save their belongings.

According to Jojie, all their equipment and ukulele was burned down by the fire with their house. Tongli’s family is calling for help from those with good heart.

They are currently living in an evacuation center because the renovation of the house is not yet complete. The boy’s mother said the money Tongli raised in playing at Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House was used to start the house.

“Sa tanang adunay malumo nga kasingkasing bisan unsa nga hinabang dawaton namo kay wala gyud mi masalbar sa sunog,” begged Mrs. Cabradilla.

[To all those who have a good heart, we need any help because we have no spare parts from the fire]

Tongli still plays at the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House on Saturdays and Sundays to provide for his family’s daily needs. For now, he uses the ukulele of his uncle.
