Davao del Sur was at the epicenter of a massive 6.9 magnitude earthquake that left thousands of buildings damaged. The quakes also left at least 11 dead and produced about 960 aftershocks.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, the LPA was about 2,500 km east of Mindanao at 3 a.m. In addition, it is forecasted to penetrate the Philippines’ Area of Responsibility on Sunday.

If the low-pressure area would intensify into a storm, it would be the Philippine’s 21st storm of the year. As per the report, Ramond Ordinario of PAGASA said that it could then hit areas of Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Davao del Sur.

Also, a second LPA was discovered about 795 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 3:00 a.m. With this, Ordinario said that the LPA would bring cloudy skies and isolated thunderstorms over the ff areas:

  • Caraga
  • Davao Region
  • Northern Mindanao
  • Easter Visayas
  • Central Visayas

However, PAGASA emphasized that the LPA closer to the Philippines is unlikely to intensify into a storm. Meanwhile, Luzon and Metro Manila would experience fair weather but isolated rains may be present for 2 hours.
