Elderly Man with Filariasis Who Still Works to Buy Himself Medicine Earned Praises

An elderly man with a disease called Filariasis became viral and earned praises from the online community because he still works to buy himself medicines.

Recently, a post of a netizen named Eliejah Judynne Mernilo on Facebook became viral, where he shared the severe illness of an elderly man in Butuan City.

The old man has a disease called filariasis or more commonly known as “elephantiasis”, which, according to the Department of Health (DOH), can be transmitted by mosquito bites with parasitic worms.

According to the Eliejah, Lolo Antonio Riveral continued to work as a tricycle driver to allegedly save money and buy some medicines on his illness. Eliejah also shared some photos and videos of Lolo Anotonio’s condition.

In Eliejah’s photos and videos, Lolo Antonio’s other leg is large and swelling, which is some of the symptoms that he has “elephantiasis”. Other symptoms of this condition besides leg swelling can also experience severe inflammation of the genitals, arms, fever and cough as well as body tremors.

The concerned netizens use the social media to sought the help to other netizens that could give some medicine or finance for his treatment. Someone who would be able to give attention to the condition of Lolo Antonio.

Thanks to Eliejah’s post, the generosity of the Filipino people immediately subsided, with some asking how they could be financially spent helping the elderly.
