According to ABS-CBN, Apl.de.ap, one of the members of the group and whose Filipino bonds are the reason the band was picked, said that he is grateful towards both Taboo and will.i.am as he knew the things the two go through to squeeze the performance on the biennial event in their schedules.

The group’s world tour schedule, which took them to Brazil, Paraguay, and Australia, included the 30th Southeast Asian Games closing ceremony.

“When I heard about the SEA Games, I just wanted to do the torch run. Like how Will did it in the UK,”

Apl.de.ap, born Allan Pineda Lindo, added that it took about a month to get the yes from the group members, further saying that he is excited that will.i.am and Taboo are here with them for the historical and momentous event.

“This is a celebration of our athletes for their hard work to represent our country.”

ABS-CBN further posted Apl’s statement on Twitter.

As per the report, Apl.de.ap performed during the opening ceremony of the biennial sports event. He sang “Bebot” as part of a string of numbers, which also included a tribut to the late OPM legend Francis Magalona.

Apl earlier reacted to a comment from Raissa Robles saying that he is not a Filipino.

“Let the haters continue to hate, we’re here as a country to motivate and elevate,” he said.
