The archipelago is between the two oceans: Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean, and is bordered with the following areas:

The nation also has about 300 ethnic groups, which includes:

Etymology

The name is derived from the Greek term Indos (Ἰνδός) which means Indian and nesos (νῆσος) which means “islands”, forming the name “Indian islands”.
