Local Government Declares State Of Calamity In Oriental Mindoro

ORIENTAL MINDORO – The onslaught of Typhoon Tisoy left thousands homeless and prompted the local government to declare a state of calamity.

Typhoon Tisoy was the strongest storm to hit the Philippines so far this year. With this, close to a billion pesos worth of damage was dealt according to reports.

Tisoy also left at about ₱811 million worth of damage to agriculture, according to the agency. Figures from the agency confirmed that ₱655 million agricultural damage is from the Bicol region.

Meanwhile, in Mimaropa in Oriental Mindoro, they bore the typhoon’s wrath with ₱156 million damage. This left the province in ruin.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN, provincial disaster head Vincent Gahol stated that the agriculture in the province had been severely hit. He added that this doesn’t even involve livestock.

However, he emphasized that with the help of their Governor, they will strive to rise back up again. In addition, he stated that they are communicating with different agencies from the government.

He also said that they had an initial talk with the PCSO to establish housing projects. As per the article, the town of Nawhan received the most damage.

Adding to this, power has yet to be restored in the majority of the province. There were also 2 people who died because of the typhoon.

One of them was killed by a collapsed kitchen roof. Meanwhile, the other fell while clearing his backyard in Baco town where Tisoy made its final landfall.

However, the latest reports said that Tisoy is forecast to leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday morning.
