IU Recognized By Forbes As One Of 2019 Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy

IU – One of South Korea’s most beloved darlings, singer-actress IU has been named by Forbes as one of Asia’s 2019 Heroes of Philanthropy.

Along with IU, Filipina actress Angel Locsin was also included in the list. Another Filipino that was included was SM’s Henry Sy.

The annual Heroes of Philanthropy is now celebrating 13 years of service to the people. Forbes wanted to highlight individuals who are committed to solving pressing issues faced by Asia-Pacific.

The list honors billionaires, entrepreneurs, and celebrities who are generous enough to share the fruits of their success to those who need it.

Forbes also noted that IU was the youngest person to be part of the list. She was accompanied by another Korean philanthropist, the CEO of Amorepacific Group, Suh Kyung Bae.

According to an article from Soompi, Forbes said that IU has donated a total of 900 million won (about $800,000) to several causes since 2018. In just a short amount of time, she already gave so much.

Earlier this year, IU and other Korean celebs donated on behalf of the victims of the Gangwon Province fire. She also donated to the association of the deaf after getting inspiration from her character in “My Mister”.

As per the article, she had also donated multiple times to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation. The organization aimed to help unprivileged children.

The Forbes list mentioned that IU’s own underprivileged background was part of her motivation for her philanthropy. Adding to this, in 2019, she and her Fanclub made a joint donation for the elderly.
