Bacolod City Bagged “Best Performing City” At DILG Excell Awards

BACOLOD CITY – Bacolod City recently bagged the “Best Performing LGU City In Western Visayas” at the 2019 DILG Excell Awards.

According to SunStar, Evelio Leonardia, mayor of Bacolod, which is known as the “City of Smiles”, said that this is an exceptional year for them, further adding that the awards and recognition hailed on the city have been the most inspiring.

“This proves the efficiency and responsiveness of government machinery and the vibrancy of the economy and the city in general. Indeed, when it rains, it pours. So we thank our vice mayor, councilors, department and office heads, and employees for making Bacolod what it is today,”

Next to Bacolod City is Passi City in Iloilo and San Carlos City in Negros Occidental.

The qualifiers for the aforementioned awards were five out of sixteen Western Visayas that earned the 2019 Seal of Good Governance (SGLG) Awards, namely:

  • Bacolod, Negros Occidental
  • Silay, Negros Occidental
  • Victorias, Negros Occidental
  • San Carlos, Negros Occidental
  • Passi, Iloilo

The awarding ceremony, with the title “Pagdayaw 2019: Reaping Results. Upscaling Innovations,”, was hel d at the Diversion 21 Hotel in Iloilo City.

Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag, director of the Bacolod division of DILG, accepted the award for Bacolod from DILG-Western Visayas regional director Ariel Iglesia, assistant regional director Maria Calpiza Sardua, and Civil Service Commission-Western Visayas regional director Nelson Sarmiento.

Based on the report, Leonardia, as well as other city officials was unable to come at the ceremony since they have to attend to the heightened disaster preparedness and emergency response for Typhoon “Tisoy”.

The city was under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 on early Tuesday.

The city also earned the following awards:

  • Champion
    • Excellence in Local Legislation
    • Excellence in Administrative Governance
    • Excellence in Environmental Governance
  • 1st Runner-up
    • Excellence in Social Governance
    • Excellence in Economic Governance
