Twenty-Six People Injured In Minibus Accident In Cebu

MINIBUS ACCIDENT – About 26 passengers were injured when a minibus fell while travelling in Sogod, Cebu on Monday (December 2).

According to Inquirer’s Cebu Daily News, a minibus fell on its side as it traveled the national highway in Sitio Sandayong, Barangay Liki in the town of Sogod, Cebu, at 2 AM this Monday.

Police Staff Sergeant Raymund Bacordo of the town’s police station said that the vehicle carried 40 passengers which excludes the driver and his two assistants.

Out of the 26 injured passengers, five of them received serious injuries, while others gained scratches and bruises. The aforementioned passengers were brought to Cebu City for further treatment, while others were sent to the town’s district hospital.

As per the report, Bacordo reported that the driver, identified as 44-year-old Edgar Muñez Atendido from Sitio Dagit, Bogo City, attempted to overtake the bus when he realized his brakes malfunctioned.

When he tried to maneuver back to his lane, he lost control of the minibus, eventually tilting and fell on its right at the side of the highway.

As for the bus it attempted to overtake, no one was hurt, fortunately. Atendido will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injury and damage to property. He was also detained at Sogod police station.
