The 2019 SEA Games were kicked off with an amazing opening ceremony that lived up the hype set by organizers. It had amazing performances that were world-class.

During the introduction of the delegates, team Philippines entered the opening ceremony of the 2019 SEA Games to the song “Manila”. However, Sara Duterte had some issues with this.

She made a post on her Instagram account on Sunday that said that organizers should be more “inclusive”. The President’s daughter had this to say.

We should be inclusive when we want to encourage our countrymen to cheer.

She then explained why she was not that big of a fan of the song choice. According to her Instagram post, she emphasized that she is a Filipino but does not have a single drop of Tagalog blood in her veins.

Pure Vismin by birth and Ilocos by marriage. #bastabisayahilas add na natin German American for the glam.

However, the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) said that the opening ceremony was “as inclusive as it can be”. They explained that the song represented the Capital of the Philippines.

When we welcome someone in Manila, it means you’re welcoming everyone to the Philippines“, said PHISGOC spokesman Jarie Osias. He then cited the same example as Sara Duterte.

He told ANC that even though he did not want to hazard a guess on the sentiments the President’s daughter. But, he explained that he was from Las Piñas and his family from Bulacan, he did not feel slighted with the song choice.
