NUJP Calls Out SEA Games Officials That Bash Media For Giving Negative Reports
NUJP -The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines called out the 2019 SEA Games officials for bashing the media for giving negative reports on their coverage of the SEA Games.
Recently, the 2019 SEA Games have faced several controversies and issues. This sparked various reactions from netizens who criticized the organizers for their faults.
With this, Ramon Suzara of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) slammed the media for their negative reporting. They asked the journalist to publish positive reports instead.
This move then urged the NUJP to give their own statements. They said that the press’ duty has always been to report things as they are.
The NUJP added that the reports are based on verifiable facts, and do not give bias to anyone’s perception of what it is, or should be.
It becomes ridiculously unacceptable when the officials responsible for the disaster resort to bashing media as well, as if the reports on their shortcomings were to blame for the disaster

According to a report from ABS-CBN, they added that attempting to dictate how the media should report the news has no place in democracy.
They NUJP only argued that reporting the true state of preparations for the SEA Games is beneficial for the country. The group added that it would help ensure that the Philippines would be spared from humiliation in the future.
The 2019 SEA Games will have its opening ceremony on Saturday, November 30, 2019. It is scheduled to take place at the Philippine Arena, in Bocaue, Bulacan.
