The shooting incident was aired on a television show in Brazil. It showed Zilda Henrique dos Santos Leandro, the homeless woman, approaching a man on Rua Barao in Central Drio De Janeiro.

Based on reports, she was talking to the man as he was walking past her and asked for 18 pence or about 23 US cents. The man was then shown walking away from the woman.

He kept on walking away from the 31-year-old woman until he came to a stop. Afterward, he pulled out a handgun from his waistband and shot Henrique twice as she tried to run away from him.

Based on reports from Unilad, the man was later identified to be Aderal Ramos. Henrique was then seen falling in the middle of the road while Ramos simply hid his gun and walked away.

A passerby then stops to help the woman who was lying on the road. She was then rushed to the hospital where, unfortunately, she was pronounced dead.

Jut in May, the Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, a former army capital, signed a law that allows a number of people to carry weapons without needing proof of why they carry them.

Later, it was revised to only give a limited number of people permission to carry them. These include hunters and not millions of ordinary residents.

However, it still needs to be approved by Brazil’s upper House before it could become law. Adding to this, Brazil already has one of the highest crime rates in the world.
