Divisoria Vendors Pleading Outside Of Manila City Hall

DIVISORIA VENDORS – A group of Divisoria vendors marched near the Manila City Hall to plead to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to lift the ban.

Mayor Isko Moreno banned the vendors from displaying their merchandise on Ilaya Street due to their “negligence to keep their areas clean” as piles of garbage was left on the said area.

Until know, he still refused to lift the ban, further saying in a briefing that they were given a chance to sell in Divisoria but they paid that chance with filth.

According to PhilStar, “Divisoria Vendors Multi-Purpose Association Inc.”, a grouped formed by the displaced vendors held a protest against the government’s clearing operations.

They were shouting the words “Kabuhayan, ipaglaban!” which translates to “Fight for our livelihood”.

Moreno refused to meet with the vendors due to the tight schedule, hence, his hands are tide as of the moment.

Earlier, he defended himself when one of the people said that his operation is anti-poor, further saying this:

“You know how it feels to be hungry, to have stomach pains because you no longer have anything to eat. You should understand that because you experienced poverty,”

“We do not blame you, but you should not punish all of us because of the mistake of one person. It’s almost Christmas, have mercy on us.”

He said that they could have been rich since being there for decades would give them enough time for them to do so.

As per the report, he called out “organizers” when he said that the vendors can afford to pay their rent to unknown syndicates who allegedly extort money from them.

Here is the video of the said protest by the displaced vendors.

Earlier, Moreno said that the government was currently restoring Ilaya Street via paving the road and fixing the tangled cable wires that are dangling because the vendors used them as a makeshift clotheslines for their merchandise.
