Release Of Fresh New Looks Of Philippine Peso Coins, Is It Legit?

PHILIPPINE PESO – A netizen posted photos of fresh new looks of Philippine Peso coins, but is the claim legitimate or not?

According to KAMI, on October 27, a netizen named Alyza Boni Marcaida posted photos of the alleged new looks of peso coins, which includes coins with the value of ₱50, ₱100, ₱500, ₱1000. ₱1500, and even ₱5000.

She added the caption: “Eto na daw bagung pera ngaun grabe ginawa na nila lahat barya”. Here is the post:

However, it proved to be misleading and false as this was fact-cheked by Rappler.

The coins are apparently not the new designs but rather are commemorative coins the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) released for a limited time.

If the BSP did announce new versions, it was the ₱20 coin, which was disclosed on July 2019. The coin is set to be revealed next month (December).

Based on the report, the said coins in the post were for the 3rd and 5th anniversaries of “Ang Bagong Lipunan” from the Marcos administration.

The ₱5 coin included in the post was the only legitimate one as this is currently circulating nationwide. The recent release of the new designs by the BSP was in March 2018.
