A Mongolian Couple lost their lives due to the bubonic plague. They got infected after eating the raw kidney of a marmot, which was their local health remedy.

Recently, two new patients from the Chinese province of Inner Mongolia were diagnosed with the pneumonic plague. However, they are now being treated in Beijing’s Chaoyang District.

Adding to this, a report from CNN said that the authorities have implemented preventative control measures. However, people don’t need to worry about the plague.

The plague is caused by bacteria that can be transmitted through flea bites and eating infected animals. It can also develop into three forms.

Pneumonic – This is more damaging and is always fatal when it’s left untreated. The Chinese patients that got infected have this kind of plague.

The other type is Bubonic which causes swollen lymph nodes. The next is septicemic which infects the blood.

According to the World Health Organization, there are more than 3248 reports of the plague worldwide. This was recorded from 2010 to 2015.

Globally, the plague has caused 50,000 human cases in the past 20 years. With this, the WHO has categorized the plague as a re-emerging disease.

According to the Center for Disease and Control (CDC), humans could get infected after being bitten by a rodent flea that carries the Yersinia pestis bacteria.

Pet animals like cats and dogs who get infected can also spread the virus to their owners. Adding to this, a 2018 study also revealed it could be gotten from body lice.

  1. I am truly wondering if we know that the plague is very deadly and wiped out millions of people why do we want to help the infected? I know human nature is to help ,but we know that the plague doctors helped and stilled died. So basically this is a suicide mission even if we find a cure millions of humans will be wiped out. If we just let the infected die maybe the plague will subside and probably try and tell people not to eat raw kidney of a marmot. Eating anything raw could lead to illnesses ,so maybe they should learn a little more on the dangers of eating raw food.
