The shoes emphasized colors, logos, and landmarks that incorporate the essence of Manila. What’s more impressive is the fact that these pairs of Vans shoes were hand-painted.

The footwear brand celebrated and took part in the 45th birthday of Manila Mayor, Isko Moreno. With the help of local artist, Nikko Pelaez custom-painted 5 pairs of Vans slip-ons.

The shoes were themed “Batang Maynila”. This is the catchphrase of Isko Moreno which he used in his campaigns and speeches.

One of the pairs featured the image for the Manila Mayor who had his 45th birthday celebration on October 24. However, the custom-painted shoes will not be available in Vans stores.

Pelaez said that he was commissioned by Vans Philippines to customize the pairs. “Pero malay niyo isa diyan matripan nila i-mass produce hahaha“, said the artist.

Based on reports from ABS-CBN, the pair with Moreno’s face were personally handed to him during a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Sta. Cruz Manila on Thursday.

Along with the customized pair, Vans also gave the mayor a red velvet birthday cake. This is another customized creation as it resembled the skatepark the mayor plans to construct in Paco, Manila.

Recently, the Manila Mayor was spotted dancing the cha-cha at Liwasang Bonifacio. He couldn’t help but dance to the music as he saw the fountain with the glimmering lights.

“Eto yung newly rehabilitated na fountain dito sa Liwasang Bonifacio. Yung mga dating illegal terminal ditto nawala na, nirehabilitate na po ito ng siyudad ng Maynila ngayon. May sounds, lights, dancing water,” he said.
