Northern Samar Hit by Earthquake with 4.4 Magnitude Today

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.4 magnitude quake in Northern Samar, October 26, 2019.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.

Recently, another quake has hit a part of Northern Samar. At 07:37 am today, October 26, 2019, Lope de Vega was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4.

Earthquake

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Northern Samar was located at 12.30°North, 124.65°East – 002 km South 78° East of Lope De Vega. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 090 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages and as well as aftershocks are not expected from the quake. The following intensity was reportedly felt of the recent quake:

  • Catarman
  • Mondragon

Intensity II

  • San Roque
  • Pambujan
