Manila Ranks 3rd Among Cities With Lowest Living Quality Based On International Research

MANILA – The capital city of the Philippines has ranked 3rd among the cities that have the lowest quality of living.

According to research from Deutsche Bank, the cities with the lowest quality of life are Laos (Nigeria), Beijing (China), and Manila (Philippines). The Nation’s Capital also ranked low in other aspects based on the research.

Manila was merely 53rd in purchasing power, 45th in health care, and 46th in safety. The city was also ranked 45th in property price to income ratio.

That meant that the living cost in the city outweighed the average income of its residents. Aside from this, Manila ranked 51st in traffic commute time and 54th on pollution.

However, according to a report from Philstar, Manila ranked 10th out of 56 countries in the cost-of-living index. This measures the relative cost of living over time.

Cities that ranked highest with quality of life are Zurich (Switzerland), Wellington (New Zealand), and Copenhagen (Denmark). Also on the list are Edinburg (United Kingdom) and Vienna in Austria.

The study also revealed that Manila ranked 50th out of 55 cities when it came to monthly salary. In the research, it showed that the net salary in Manila is 2018 was at $498, however, this went down to $480 in 2019.

The Deutsche Bank got its data from secondary sources as well as surveying prices posted online. The firm also emphasized that most of its sources use crowdsourcing to gather and process the data.

They added that while their methods provide data updates regularly, there may still be instances where data quality could have issues. This results in data being somewhat inconsistent in the reports, Deutsche said.
