What Are The Seven Layers Of The Atmosphere On Earth?

LAYERS OF THE ATMOSPHERE – In this topic, we will now know the seven different layers of the atmosphere on Earth.

The atmosphere is a group or layers of gasses which surrounds the planet or any material body. In our planet Earth, it consists of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.9% argon, and 0.03% carbon dioxide, and the rest is other known gases in trace amounts.

The Layers

There are seven layers in the Earth’s atmosphere. Here are the following according to Niwa:

  • Troposphere
    • The first and lowest layer. It is where we live in. It contains most weather conditions. It contains 75% of our atmosphere and most of the water vapor.
  • Stratosphere
    • The second layer. It is home of the cloaxed filled with ozone called the ozone layer, which protects us from the harmful ultraviolet rays which causes skin cancer.
  • Mesosphere
    • The third layer. Temperature here gets lower at about -90°C at the area called the “mesopause”
  • Thermosphere
    • The fourth layer. Extreme heat in this layer is due to its absorption of the the ultraviolet and X-ray radiation from the Sun.
  • Ionospere
    • The fifth layer. The energetic solar radiation in this area knocks the electrons off the molecules and atoms, turning them into positively-charged “ions”.
  • Exosphere
    • The fifth layer. It contains mainly oxygen and hydrogen atoms. Few of these atoms collide and follow “ballistic” trajectories under the influence of gravity, in which some of them escape into space.
  • Magnetosphere
    • The outer layer. Earth behaves like a huge magnet. Why? Because it captures electrons and protons and concentrating them in two bands which are above the Earth.
