Negros Occidental has created its own task force to prevent the virus from spreading in the island. On Wednesday afternoon, their team had seized 777.25 kilos of pork meat products from Cainta, Rizal.

The meat products were intercepted at the Bacolod Port. The heightened alertness of authorities is a result of the strict implementation of the 100-day ban made to prevent the spread of the virus.

According to ABS-CBN, the shipment seized by the ASF task force included 13 boxes of pork meat products. These products included tocino, bacon, chorizo, as well as other assorted mean products.

A certain local processed meat distributor was supposed to be receiving the shipment. However, there were approved supporting documents from the “National Meat Inspection Service” that accompanied the shipment.

But, because there was a local ban on meat products from Luzon, the ASF task force decided to ship the products back. This was done after all documentations were finished at the port.

Last week, the Task Force also intercepted and burned several kilos if imported meat products. Along with these products were assorted pork siopao from Manila.

Statistics from the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) showed that Negros Occidental is the Philippine’s top backyard hog producer. Negros racks up 510,000 in swine production annually.

The ASF Task Force from Negros Occidental had also confiscated 5 tons of undocumented pork products. These products were taken at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp port and was valued at P500,000.
