ABS-CBN Goes To Hollywood With New Crime Show
ABS-CBN – One of the biggest broadcasting and media company in the Philippines is set to expand their horizons and venture into Hollywood.
The media giant is said to be launching a new television series to be aired in the United States. ABS-CBN has partnered with Electric Entertainment in this endeavor.
Electric Entertainment is a Los Angeles based media production company. Both ABS and Electric Entertainment partnered to release “Off Tropic“.
This is their new crime-drama series set in Cebu. Electric Entertainment is headed by Filipino-American producer Dean Devlin.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, Devlin said that they chose to partner with the network for one simple reason. He said ABS has been instrumental in the development of talent in front and behind the camera.
“I think they have the most experience and they have just been amazing partners. This is going to change the way people perceive the entertainment business in the Philippines,” He added.
The series would become a catalyst for Filipino talent to be known internationally. The majority of the cast will also be from the Philippines.
The female protagonist will be a Filipina actress who will star along side Christian Kane, an American actor best know for his role as Eliot Spencer in the series “Leverage”. The actor also stars in “Angel”, and “The Librarians”.
Electric Entertainment is the production company that is behind several hit television series. Aside from that, they also had produced movies like the thriller “Bad Samaritan”.
Devlin is going to be Off Tropic’s executive producer. He is also set to write the first two episodes and direct the finale of the show.
Off Tropic would also be Devlin’s first run at producing a television show in the Philippines with Filipinos. Devlin has also been celebrated internationally for producing hit movies like “Independence Day“, “Godzilla” and “The Patriot“.
