The bureau elaborated that the autumnal equinox will happen at about 3:50 PM on September 23 (Monday), thus, nights in the Philippines will be longer since the sun will be moving below the equator towards the southern hemisphere.

According to GMA News, the bureau explained that on an equinox, day and night will have the same length of about 12 hours, no matter where you are in the world.

The bureau further added that these are the only times when the edge between night time and day time, also known as the solar terminator or the twilight zone, is perpendicular (intersecting at the right angle) to the equator.

An equinox is a moment in time where the great circle known as the celestial equator passes through the sun’s center.

As per the report, equinox happens twice every year, which usually begins at about September 22 and March 20 (vernal equinox).
