BUREAU OF JAIL AND MANAGEMENT (BJMP) – All BJMP branches nationwide were ordered by the Interior and Local Government to have their employees take a surprise drug test in light of its internal cleansing operation.

He then added that through the drug tests, integrity within the bureau would be proven. This would be important for its officers and especially the warden, Año said.

Regarding this, the BJMP-NCR went through a surprise drug test on September 14. According to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) spokesman Derrick Carreon, all were tested to be negative for drugs.

There were 63 personnel that were tested during that time. Adding to this, Carreon also stated that inmates were also tested for drugs.

According to an article by the Manila Times, Carreon stated that the drug tests have been going on for a while. He then added that they have been assisting the BJMP on the tests.

Año also lauded BJMP-NCR Director Chief Supt. Ignacio Panti for initiating the drug tests. Wherein even wardens and officers were tested.

According to BJMP, these random-drug tests is one of the essential parameters to declare a jail facility drug-free. Other parameters include jail-based intervention programs and absence of drug paraphernalia.

Back in 2017, Both PDEA and BJMP signed a memorandum agreement. The signed document stated that they would conduct regular drug-clearing operations in every city and municipal jail.
