Provinces Of Caraga Region | Regions Of The Philippines

PROVINCES OF CARAGA REGION – In this topic, we will now discuss the five provinces of Caraga Region or Region XIII.

Also known as Caraga or Caraga Administrative Region, it is one of the regions in Mindanao, one of the three island groups in the Philippines. It is named after the Caragan/Kalagan people and was formerly called region de gente animosa or the region of spirited men in English.

The region has five regions and has a population of more than 2 million people, as of 2015. Its regional center is Butuan and is assigned to Region XIII.

Provinces

Here are the following five provinces.

  • Agusan del Norte (Capital: Cabadbaran)
    • Amihanang Agusan is the western province of the region and the northern half of Agusan. Agusan is from the word agasan which means where the water flows
  • Agusan del Sur (Capital: Prosperidad)
    • Habagatang Agusan is the southern half of Agusan and the southernmost province of the region.
  • Dinagat Islands (Capital: San Jose)
    • Mga Puyo nan Dinagat is an archipelagic province at the northernmost of the region. Dinagat is derived from the phrase dinhi niini na dagat or “here from these bountiful waters” in English.
  • Surigao del Norte (Capital: Surigao City)
    • Amihanang Surigao is the northern half of Surigao. It has two main islands: Siargao, the surfing capital in the Philippines and Bucas Grande. Surigao is derived from either sulig or sprout; or suligao or spring water.
  • Surigao del Sur (Capital: Tandag)
    • Habagatang Surigao is the southern half of Surigao.
