Weather bureau PAGASA warned the public, especially fishermen, on low invisibility due to the haze that came from the forest fire in Indonesia that was carried by the weather disturbance earlier this week.

A report from GMA News states that the Visayan branch announced that the haze is experienced in the following areas:

  • Cities
    • Roxas
    • Dumaguete
    • Maasin
    • Guiuan, Samar
    • Borongan, Samar
    • Tagbilaran

The Zamboanga Peninsula administration also raised the haze alert. The haze was earlier seen in Tawi-Tawi, areas in Palawan, Koronadal, South Cotabato and Metropolitan Cebu.

PAGASA’s Ana Solis further said that according to BKMG Indonesia’s forecast, the Indonesian base is currently extremely dry.

As per the report, the smoke that affected parts of Palawan and most Visayan parts came from the forest fire from the west Kalimantan in Sumatra. As for the smoke from the Soccsksargen region came from the east Kalimantan area.

Solis further added that the smaze, a portmanteau of smoke and haze may affect the country if the habagat or the southwest monsoon still prevails and brings the smoke from the Indonesian forest fire.
