PROVINCES OF SOCCSKSARGEN

Formerly known as Central Mindoro, Soccsksargen is one of the regions in Mindanao, one of the three island groups in the Philippines.

The name Soccsksargen is an abbreviation of the four provinces and one highly urbanized city: South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos, that constitute this region. Its regional center is Koronadal City in South Cotabato.

It is assigned as Region XII and has a population of more than 4 million people, as of 2015.

Here are the following four provinces

  • Cotabato (Captial: Kidapawan)
    • Pangutaran Kutawatu or Northern Cotabato is a landlocked province in the region and the northern part of Cotabato. The name Cotabato is from the Maguindanao word kuta wato meaning stone fort.
  • Sarangani (Capital: Alabel)
    • Sarangani is at the southernmost tip of the island of Mindanao
  • South Cotabato (Capital: Koronadal)
    • Pagabagatan Kutawatu is the southern half of Cotabato
  • Sultan Kudarat (Capital: Isulan)
    • Prubinsiya nu Sultan Kudarat is at the westernmost area of the region
