The department last week announced that they were examining areas where hogs are possibly positive to African Swine Fever (ASF). 14 out of 20 samples conducted were confirmed infected by the disease.

The samples were gathered from pigs in some barangays in Rizal where last month, about 100 hogs died. The samples were sent to the United Kingdom for tests.

They also clarified that as long as it has the mark from the National Meat Inspection Comission, pork is safe to eat.

According to GMA News, Noel Reyes, Agriculture spokesperson, said that the official confirmation’s basis is on the tests they received last week. The official declaration states that the following areas have been declared with the ASF outbreak:

  • Bulacan
    • Guiguinto
  • Rizal
    • Rodriguez
    • Antipolo

Reyes further said that they will still continue to stay updated for reports and their monitoring and quarantine protocols, since there are no areas that are confirmed ASF positive.

Reyes also released a list of barangays infected with ASF, six fof which came from Rodriguez, Rizal. Here are the following barangays:

  • Rodriguez
    • Mascap
    • San Jose
    • Macabud
    • San Isidro
    • Geronimo
    • San Rafael
  • Antipolo
    • Cupang

As per the report, also included in the list is the San Mateo Slaughterhouse and an animal stockyard in Barangay Pritil in Guiguinto, Bulacan.

More than 900 hogs in Quezon City were gathered on Sunday after Mayor Joy Belmonte said that almost a dozen pigs died due to the disease.

The raisers appealed to the government for compensation for their animals. The government has yet to determine how much they can give to the affected raisers.
