President Duterte Lifts Suspension of Small Town Lottery (STL) Operations Nationwide

President Rodrigo Duterte has finally lifted the suspension of the Small Town Lottery (STL) nationwide upon compliance with certain conditions.

Yesterday (August 22, 2019), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) general manager Royina Garma announced that the President Duterte lifted the suspension of STL operations. Malacañang Palace also confirmed the order after PCSO made the announcement.

“We are happy to announce that pursuant to the recommendation of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, the President lifted the suspension of the operations of STL,” Garma said.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Mr. Duterte lifts STL suspension after PCSO upon their compliance with the conditions. Panelo also warned the agency that violation of any conditions contained in the implementing rules and regulations will be subject for the revocation of STL operating license.

Last July 2019, President Duterte suspended all the gaming activities of PCSO due to alleged corruption happening inside the agency. The president said that the government was losing its rightful share from the lottery’s income.

Eventually, the Mr. Duterte ordered the resumption of the PCSO lotto operations after the investigators discovered no anomalies during the investigation.
