23 Children Positive Of Hands, Foot, & Mouth Disease in Pangasinan

PANGASINAN – 23 children were diagnosed with the hands, foot, and mouth disease in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

The hand, foot and mouth disease or HFMD is among the common viral illness that usually affects children and infants. Symptoms of this disease include mouth sores, skin rash, and fever.

Health experts advise the public to wash their hands frequently and avoid close contact with people who are infected with the disease.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, the health officer in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Dr. Ophelia River said recorded 23 children who are positive by the hand, foot, and mouth disease from June to July. They said they are monitoring the spread of the virus in the location.

“Minomonitor namin iyong mga iyon and then tinitingnan sa ibang lugar kung may cases na rin. Kasi ang problema natin mabilis kumalat,” said River.

According to the report, the disease is caused by the coxsackievirus which is transmitted from a dirty environment and may spread rapidly. Parents should be observant on the first symptoms of the disease such as blisters around or inside the mouth, hands, and feet of their kids. The victims will also have a sore throat and fever.

The Department of Health (DOH) in Region-1 confirmed 79 cases of the hands, foot, and mouth disease in their area.

Based on the report, the Health department clarified that this viral infection is not transmitted from animals like the ‘foot-and-mouth disease.’ It is not fatal but it can be transmitted through contact with a victims stool, respiratory secretion, and saliva.

Eating vegetables and fruits, good personal hygiene, and a strong immune system are the first line of defense against the virus.
